L'AVVENTURA: During a trip to the Aeolian Islands, young Anna (Lea Massari) disappears without a trace. Her fiancé, the architect Sandro (Gabriele Ferzetti), and her best friend Claudia (Monica Vitti) set off on a search that brings them closer together. Antonioni's film was met with perplexity and rejection at its Cannes premiere because it circumvented the laws of standard cinematic dramaturgy and focused more on observations, atmospheres, and relationships. Today, the film is considered a major work of modern cinema.
